About 榕 (Chinese Banyan)

My first name 榕 (pronounced "Yung" in Cantonese and "Rong" in Putonghua) means Chinese Banyan, a large evergreen tree (常綠大喬木). The official name of the Chinese Banyan tree (榕樹) is "Ficus microcarpa L. f." which is belong to "Moraceae or mulberry family" (桑科).

Why Wynn?

Because daddy gave a single-syllable first name to my brother, Sean Wong. Mommy said my name should be single-syllable too.
Originally, daddy wants to name me "Young" because "Young" sound closely to my Chinese name and actually he register a domain name of YoungWong.COM for me. But mommy said "Young" is a common surname and she was afraid that people may mix up my first name with my surname. Mommy said I'm handsome. So, she named me "Wynn".

Why 榕 (Chinese Banyan)?

As mentioned in my brother's website, in the early morning of August 18, 2553 (2002 AD), while the sun hadn't risen yet, our house was enveloped in a mist. In the haze of greyish blue, my daddy saw a hazel shrub (榛樹) standing at the front door blocking his way out when he rushed out of the house to start the car to drive my mommy to the hospital. Therefore, he named my brother 榛.

Few months later, daddy discovered that the tree he saw was not a hazel tree. He went to library to see what kind of tree it is. Finally, he found that the tree is a Chinese Banyan (榕樹). To compensate his mistake, he tried hard to "make" his second son, i.e. me, and name me 榕.

Another reason of why daddy name me 榕 is because the home town of my grandmother and grandfather, Jieyan City (揭陽), is also called 榕城 (Banyan City). By the way, my grandmothers and grandfathers are all from Chiu Chow (潮州).
